How to Optimize Compact Bathroom Space?

We all use bathroom almost every single day to start a day with a good cold bath or to end a tiring day with a warm shower. With the advent of small compact apartment units, the bathroom space is getting even smaller and the walls are closing in on us. Small bathrooms have become common everywhere and the lack of space is making us claustrophobic at a place where it ought to feel the most at ease.

But even with such a small compact space in the bathroom, we can do a lot with the ergonomic planning of space. By using almost every section of the space intelligently, we can make the bathroom completely functional and convenient for our sake. Here we will see how to optimize small bathroom space:

Creating spaciousness with reflection:

We cannot possibly create space with reflective elements. But with smart use of mirrors can induce a spacious effect in the bathroom. A large mirror with a defining frame that looks daring is a great option to do this. By creating an illusion of spaciousness, the mirror can add a bit more drama into space. Glassy featured elements other than mirrors can also do the trick. Clear and transparent shower screens, glass panels with tint can be a super cool choice.

Taking good care of the lighting:

With smart lighting and positioning, we can augment the perception of space just like we dealt with mirrors. To ensure that we have to bring in light fixtures that expand illumination up to all the corners in the bathroom. This creates an illusion of space. We can also let in natural light by having an open window with slanted transparent glass panels. This can also act as a ventilating unit. In my flats in Pallavaram, there is also a ventilating fan on this duct, so as to not worry about being visible from the outside.

Smart design elements for the aid:

Using dark colors in a compact space can make it appear even smaller than the real size. Tiles and flooring in light shades work well and they can make the space more open and vast in appearance. Using similar shades of the flooring on the walls and ceiling also does the trick. A small round washbasin is perfect for a compact bathroom.

Letting go of bulky fixtures:

Cabinets that are too big can easily make a compact bathroom less functional and inconvenient. Vertical racks for drying, open shelves and a rack over the door are smart replacements for oversized cabinets that are not only inconvenient but also dangerous.

Considering corner and overhead space:

Most of us just ignore the functional advantages of corners and overhead space. Instead of bulky cabinets, vanity setups in the corner over the sink and storage units over it can make a bathroom completely functional. Toilet and sink that are mounted on the wall allows optimized space utilization and saves floor space. A trash bin under the sink should be small and taken out regularly.

Looking for ergonomic door options:

It is smart not to install doors that open inwards towards the bathroom space. Space constraints can be greatly prevented by bringing in a door that opens outwards and not inwards. A sliding door can also come in handy for small compact spaces.
